To lock a channel on a team, you can use the following steps:ġ. In general, locking a Slack channel ensures that only the most relevant, topical conversations are taking place in the channel. In some cases, admins may also limit who can add new members to the channel. ![]() In addition to locking the channel, admins can also restrict members from posting topics that are off-topic or out of the scope of the conversation. Typically, the purpose of locking a channel is to allow administrators to control the content in the channel and prevent users from posting irrelevant or potentially harmful information. When a Slack channel is locked, it means that only designated members are able to post messages in the channel. You can unlock the group later by going back to the same toggle. This will disable the ability for users to post to the group, as well as approve new membership requests. On the page that appears, you will see a toggle switch for “Lock Group” located at the top of the page. Select “Manage Group” from the options that appear. On the left-hand side, select the group you would like to lock and click on the “More” dropdown button. If you are a Slack workspace administrator, you can lock a group in Slack by going to the group settings. ![]()
